MIAMI, OK — Miami Public Schools is proud to announce the hiring of Robert Henderson as the new head football coach for the Wardogs football program.
Coach Henderson brings a dynamic blend of college and high school coaching experience, along with a proven track record of building competitive programs and developing student-athletes both on and off the field.
“We are excited to welcome Coach Henderson to the Wardog Family,” said Athletic Director Millie Gillion. “He brings leadership and experience both as a player and coach. Coach Henderson is committed to developing student-athletes both on and off the field. We believe he will be a great fit to lead our football program.”
Henderson has coached at multiple collegiate programs, including stops at Southwest Baptist University, the University of Central Arkansas, Virginia Military Institute, and Hendrix College. At the high school level, he has served as a head coach at Independence High School (KS) and Cherryvale High School (KS), along with coordinator roles in Texas and Arkansas.
During his tenure as a head coach, Henderson demonstrated a strong ability to rebuild and grow programs. At Independence, he significantly increased offseason participation, expanded summer strength numbers, and led a young roster to competitive performances, including multiple close games against top-ranked opponents. At Cherryvale, he improved win totals, increased roster size, and elevated defensive performance despite limited returning starters.
Known for his versatility, Henderson has coached nearly every position group on both sides of the ball and has coordinated offense, defense, and special teams. His teams have consistently shown improvement in participation, competitiveness, and player development.
In addition to his coaching experience, Henderson holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Arkansas at Monticello and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Arkansas. He is actively involved in several professional coaching organizations and holds multiple certifications focused on player safety and development.
