[Miami, Oklahoma] On October 31st, 2023, Miami Public Schools (MPS) accepted the resignation of Chad Davis as the Director of Athletics. After six years of dedicated service, Davis has made the heartfelt decision to step away from the helm of Wardog Athletics.

In his resignation statement, Davis expressed his belief that now is the right time to relinquish the demanding role in athletics and embrace a well-deserved opportunity to slow down and reflect. “I want to thank former superintendent Dr. Jeremy Hogan and current superintendent Mr. Nick Highsmith for the opportunity to lead Wardog Athletics over the past six years,” said Davis. “I cannot thank Coach Rusty Mercer enough for everything he has done for the athletic department and me during my tenure. Thank you to all of the coaches, student-athletes, event workers, booster club members, admin, and support staff who all do such a great job to make the athletic department run smoothly. I am excited to see all of the great things that will happen in the future.”

While Chad Davis may be stepping down from his role as Director of Athletics, he looks forward to embracing a new role within the school district, allowing him to continue working alongside exceptional individuals and contributing to the growth of students, preparing them for success in college, career, and citizenship.

In light of Davis’ departure, MPS is pleased to announce that Rusty Mercer will be stepping in as the new Interim Athletic Director. Rusty has been an integral part of our athletics department for many years and has demonstrated exceptional dedication and knowledge in his role as a head coach and Assistant Athletic Director.
